Winter Plumbing Preparation Checklist

Winter is almost here. Before you know it you’ll be getting all those warm clothes out of storage and along with your heaters and other warm-inducing devices. May will fly by and June will arrive with colder nights and cooler days, so you better start getting ready to allow your plumbing system to receive this winter season ready and win the battle against the cold.

If you make sure you follow the following steps, your plumbing system will be ready for winter and you’ll avoid costly headaches. Don’t forget to download our handy Winter Plumbing Preparations Checklist to make the process even easier.

We rely on it every single day and need to make sure that our household plumbing system can handle dropping temperatures. It’s important to take extra safety precautions in safeguarding your home plumbing system. Insulation is the most effective way to prepare a plumbing system for winter.

1. Protect the Faucets

Outdoor faucets are exposed to the elements, they need protection. Before winter hits, it’s a good time to disconnect and drain your garden hoses, and shut off the water to your outdoor faucets.

Doing so will avoid damage. It’s a great idea to have a professional evaluate your case and talk to you about different options to protect your pipes.

2. Service Your Water Heater

Ready for a cold shower during winter? Didn’t think so. So, schedule a water heater maintenance. It’ll need to be drained and checked thoroughly to give you peace of mind the entire season.

3. Gutters, Downpipes and Stormwater Drainage Systems

All these need to be clear to avoid leaks and overflows. If not well maintained, overloaded gutters can even pull away from the house, requiring serious repairs.

4. Roof Leaks

During summer, a roof leak is just a mild frustration. But in winter it can spell disaster. So, check and repair any leaks in the roof and avoid expensive and lengthy repairs to the structure of your house.

5. Garden hoses

Drain well and store all your garden hoses to avoid damage. You won’t be needing them for a while, especially in cold areas of Adelaide, like the Adelaide Hills. So, give your hoses a longer life by storing them in a dry area.

6. Call The pros

Winter cold is serious business, and your plumbing system needs to be able to handle it. Calling the pros is the best way to make sure your winter flows smoothly. So, download our checklist and call us to set up an appointment.
